On Friday, February 9th, Great Hearts Harveston will host its first inaugural Mardi Gras Fest! We invite all parents and guardians to join us as our scholars celebrate the Mardi Gras season with a parade right here on the Great Hearts Harveston campus. Bring your lawn chairs, and lots of cheers for our scholars!

TIME 

    • 11:30 – 12:00 Shoebox float display 
    • 12:00 – 12:30 Parade 

LOCATION 

    • 11801 Bluebonnet Blvd 
    • Shoebox float display: gymnasium 
    • Parade: Back left parking lot  

Parents are welcome to arrive as early as 11:30 AM to enjoy a display of our scholar’s shoebox floats! Please park in the front parking lot of the school, walk through the front doors of campus and through the gymnasium. Chairs may be set up along the parameter of the field. Please see the map linked here for parking and chair guidelines. Attending this event as a parent is OPTIONAL.

 

 SHOEBOX FLOATS

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students are invited to create a shoebox float! All floats will be displayed in the gymnasium at 11:30 AM before the parade. See examples below:

If your child decides to create a float, please follow the guidelines below. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your child’s float not being displayed during the event.  

      • All floats must be created at home.   
      • This year’s theme is: What have you learned thus far? Students may decorate their shoebox based on a lesson, project, or subject from this school year.  
      • Floats may not be larger than one shoebox.  
      • No motorized or remote-controlled vehicles. 

Students should bring their completed floats to class on Thursday, February 8th.

 

PARADE

Students in the 3rd – 7th grade will walk along the parade route in the parking lot with beads and candy to throw to students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade. Students will not be walking with wagons during the parade.

Kindergarten – 2nd grade students will be catching throws during the parade with their respective classmates and teachers. Parents will remain in their designated seating area near the parade route.  

 

DONATIONS

We ask that parents donate beads and individually wrapped candy for scholars to throw during the parade. Donations can be dropped off from now until Wednesday, February 7th at the front office during school hours.  

 

EARY RELEASE SCHEDULE

Early dismissal will continue as usual. After the parade, students will return to their classrooms, and be released to bus or carpool at 1:20 PM. If your student is a bus rider but will be picked up at the time of dismissal, please notify the front office on Friday morning.
